Lonely Planet names best countries to visit in 2020

Travel guide company Lonely Planet has just released its latest Best in Travel 2020 guide, naming 10 of the best countries to visit next year.

Featuring a range of destinations noted for their sustainability efforts, Bhutan in Asia takes the top spot.

Best known for its breathtaking Himalayan landscape, Lonely Planet praises Bhutan for its ‘high-value, low-impact’ tourism policy that sees visitors to the country charged a fee.

Bhutan is also praised for its status as the world’s only carbon-negative country.

Taking second place, England is celebrated for its coastline with Lonely Planet noting that the ever-growing England Coast Path is continually opening new sections.

When complete, the path will be the biggest of its kind in the world.

Other featured destinations can be found across the globe including Costa Rica, famed for its natural landscape and wildlife, and the West African country of Liberia.
