A relaxing week in an excellent hotel amid the beauty of the Algarve is the recipe for this Portuguese holiday. You will discover not just the spectacular coastline, but also the unspoilt countryside of the hinterland, with historic sites such as Silves, the former Moorish capital of the Algarve, with its Roman Bridge and 16th century church. Your resort, Armação de Pêra, boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve, with pretty coves and a panorama of brightly coloured fishing boats. Your base is the 4-star Holiday Inn (formerly Hotel Garbe), right on the beach.
• 7 nights half board in the 4* Holiday Inn on the beach at Armação de Pêra
• 3 included guided excursions visiting Portimao, Silves, Cape St Vincent and Lagos
Day One: Flight to Faro and transfer to your hotel in Armação de Pêra, just 45 minutes away from the airport. Seven nights half board accommodation is reserved for you.
Days Two to Seven: In resort with three included excursions: Your first excursion (half-day) is an orientation tour, showing you the coast to the west of your resort. After a photo stop at the impressive Algar Seco rock formations, you continue to the pretty fishing village of Carvoiero (coffee stop) and the town and beach resort of Portimao. The second excursion takes you inland, into the rolling countryside, where you will also stop in one of the Algarve’s most picturesque villages, Alte, and in the former Moorish stronghold of Silves. Alte stands at the foot of the Serra do Calderao, with white houses clustered in the narrow streets around the church. There are natural springs, too, with a series of little waterfalls, grassy banks, and a much-painted bridge over the stream. Silves is bigger than Alte, but no less pretty, beautifully set under its well-preserved Moorish castle and its cathedral, and on the Arade River. Your other included trip is to the Algarve’s Wild West, Cape St Vincent, the south-west extremity of Portugal, and with its 75m high cliffs, a major landmark for Atlantic shipping. The area is rich in birdlife. Nearby is the village of Sagres, popular with surfers, with a fort, lighthouse and good beaches. Today you will also visit Lagos, a town which is closely associated with Henry the Navigator, and was the starting port of many Portuguese voyages of discovery in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Day Eight: Free time until your transfer to the airport for your return flight
