Your Excursions
Dales Countryside Museum & Leyburn
We include entry to the captivating Dales Countryside Museum which is housed in a Victorian railway station and tells the story of the people who have lived and worked in the Yorkshire Dales over the past thousand years. See the station’s locomotive and climb aboard the carriages, view ancient artefacts such as a Bronze Age spear and a gold Viking ring then discover the special exhibitions. From here, we head to the fine market town of Leyburn, set in Wensleydale and home to a good choice of shops and cafés as well as pleasant walks through the scenic Shawl.
York
At the heart of York stands the tremendous thirteenth century Gothic minster; truly a masterpiece of sculptured stone, functioning bell towers and stained glass windows. The City Walls form a pleasant walkway on both banks of the River Ouse while York Castle is an imposing tower, set high on a mound giving panoramic views across the cityscape. Roam the labyrinth of alleyways, take a boat trip or sip a drink by the river. Perhaps broaden your mind at one of the absorbing museums such as the National Railway Museum or the award winning Jorvik Viking Centre where you can step back a thousand years to the Middle Ages.
